Place a DWG or PDF survey file into a Worksheet and use it as a Trace Reference to precisely model your site topography; use Solid Element Operations (SEO) to cut out volumes where the building is placed. Youll be able to model your site in the most expeditious and efficient sequence when you follow the method I share with you. If youve ever struggled to build a terrain model, or made one that was overly detailed and slowed down your 3D views, this detailed training will point you in the right direction. Archicad 22 Tutorial Series Of EasyEven if you have never used the mesh tool, youll learn enough to get started, and after watching the lesson youll be able to do it yourself BONUS: Use these sample files to follow along, in both Imperial and Metric systems: Survey DWG file for USA (imperial units) users Survey DWG file for International (metric units) users This lesson is part of my QuickStart Course, a 13 hour series of easy to follow video lessons that cover the basics of ArchiCAD with a Best Practices perspective. The QuickStart Course is one component of my comprehensive Best Practices Course.) For more info or to sign up, please visit the QuickStart Course website. You notice that weve got the floor plan, and we have a furniture plan. These are some variations along with structural plans, etc., that are different versions of what were looking at. Now, I like to create a site plan to work on the train model. So, Ill activate the floor plan here and then switch some of the settings. Ill go to the Quick Options, which is this little button in the bottom left, third from the left in the Navigation area, and Ill switch the layer combination from floor plan to site plan, and that actually changes what is seen because layers determine which things are visible and which are not, and now were seeing just the walls the exterior walls and the roofs, and it turns off the interior of the building. Now, if youre working with the international metric version, then you will also have a site option, but youll need to change the layer combination to show the walls in order to coordinate the survey, and I will repeat the exercise that Im about to do with bringing in the survey, again, with the metric version. So, first well do the U.S. So, to bring in this survey, a great way to do it starting in ARCHICAD 11 would be to create a worksheet with the survey. Now, if youre in ARCHICAD 10 I cant remember when worksheets were introduced. Maybe it was 12. So, if youre in ARCHICAD 10 or possibly 11, then you would usually create a new detailed drawing to place this or possibly place it on a story below the main one so you can create additional stories in your project, but Im going to go ahead and create a new, independent worksheet, which is without an ID. Ill just leave that alone, but Ill change the name here to Survey. It now gives me a blank drafting area. Now, Im going to change the scale from, which is 1 to 48 to an 18 because I figured the survey will fit nicely on my layout sheet at that scale. If youre working in metric, 1 to 100 will work just fine, and of course, when youre working with very large projects, then you might have much smaller scales 1 to 200 or 116 per foot or even smaller. Ill just say OK, and now Im ready to actually bring in the.dwg from the consultants as a survey. ![]() Now, if youre in the start edition, you wont have that option, so you might have to do things like merging the drawing in, and I wont deal with that in this lesson, but just follow along with the general principles because you can still do similar sorts of things. Ill say Place External Drawing, and it allows me to choose a.dwg file, so Im going to go look here, and I have my site survey, and its a.dwg. Right now, I have the filter saying Show Everything, so all different types. You could pick from the filtered to show only.dwg, and there would be a very short list in this folder. Ill say Open, and when I do that, it asks me, What is the drawing unit Now, what youve got to understand is that in.dwg files, the elements are described based on how many units in length or placement they are, so in other words, if somethings 100 units in length, a line could be 100 feet, 100 meters, 100 miles anything. So, we need to choose what thats going to be. Now, if youre in the US, and youre working with the most common surveys, which are in decimal feet, so the property line is described as 128.57 feet, then one foot would be the unit. If youre bringing in an architectural drawing that is in feet and inches from a consultant, then you might pick one inch. In metric, you can experiment between meters and millimeters. In the file that Im supplying to you for this purpose, you will be bringing it in as one meter. So, Im going to choose the one foot and say Place. Ill just click on the origin point of this particular drawing.
